The NETwork! team have received funding from the Cancer Society for 1 year to begin a study focused on Merkel Cell Carcinoma (or NETs of the skin). Merkel Cell carcinomas are usually initiated by a virus in European/US patients but it is hypothesised that in Australasia, the key driver is, in fact, Ultra Violet light DNA damage. With Dr Cherie Blenkiron as the principal investigator, we will be the first to investigate this in our New Zealand patients, bringing together our expertise from ongoing NETwork! projects.
