Representatives from Australia, New Zealand and Canada met for the inaugural meeting of the Commonwealth Neuroendocrine Tumour Group (COMMNETS), a new collaboration which aims to leverage similarities between these three countries to facilitate collaborative research that can improve NET patient outcomes. There is considerable overlap between the health systems, medical culture, and patient needs in these three countries. Similarly, there is an overlapping research culture and a research environment with similar challenges.
This collaborative two day meeting was convened to bring together clinicians and researchers to unite to address issues in research and treatment of patients with Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs).The main outputs of this meeting were the production of a document highlighting major gaps in NET research using a modified Delphi process, and the creation of a set of collaborative projects to move forward on together.
Several members of the NETwork! project team attended this meeting, and will be contributing to the projects identified as key priorities by the wider group, as they move forward.
